As of 2001[update] India census[1], Sikka had a population of 17,699. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Sikka has an average literacy rate of 44%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 54%, and female literacy is 34%. In Sikka, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Reliance Industries Limited is operating one of the largest grass root refineries in the world here. This plant covers an area of approximately 25 square kilometers.
Most residents are of Gujarat and speak Gujarati language. A small percentage speak Kachchi language which is written in the Gujarati script but is not mutually intelligible with Gujarati. Kathiawadi Language (which is a variant of Gujarati) is widely used for day to day communication. Major communities include Dawoodi Bohras Ahirs(Yadav),Rajgor Brahmins, Patels , Bhanushalis , Rajputs (Khavas), Mers , Jains, Oswals, Lohanas etc.
In 1960s it was only an Industrial city with a cement factory of Somani's, known as Digvijay Cement Co.(also known as DCC). there are also many co-opertive society's known as Sikka kaamna greens etc. Today also the Google map of Sikka shows the factory as Digvijay Cement Co. in addition to temples etc. Saurashtra Electricity Board also had a Power plant in a separate Power station building to supply mainly to this industry.
